Wow, mombasa is raining! its cold out there and this is like, i dont know, the fifth cup of coffee im having this morning?
while still at it, coffee. The wonderdrug. How many people know the benefits of coffee? that is apart from the fact that it helps us keep warm? #ahem#
like i said in my previous post, im trying to help my gals work towards owning their bodies, totally rocking it and being proud of your hard work. Initially when i tried losing weight, i was grappling in the dark without an idea of what exactly is expected of me. first i tried jogging in the morning. Together with my two friends Rita and Caroline, we would go to a field that was outside my place and do 10 laps everyday. after which we would have a breakfast that consisted of white tea, sausages, bacon, bread and what have you. After a while, say a month i realised that instead of losing i had actually added two kgs.
Sounds familliar huh?
So what was i doing wrong here that made me add instead of losing? what most people dont know is you cant just go out there and start running without a plan and expect to see results. That my dear friend is missing the whole point here.
And here are the most frequent mistakes people who go for morning/evening laps make and start complaining that they are not seeing any results.
1. Time.
2. consistency
3. speed.
4. sweat
5. food intake
What about time? your probably askin. you cannot do ten laps and say you have worked out. You cannot jog for twenty minutes and say you have had a serious workout. that is why i’d rather one does a daily walk of 45min than that run of 45min if (which brings us to the second point) your jogging is not consistenct. when i talk about consistency i mean the pace that you started with and the pace that you completed your jogging with.
you should first warm up and then hit it hard. (pun intended haha)
no way you can start with high speed then when your body has started heating up and the muscles contracting you lose steam. after only like ten minutes, you know?
If you are having a run for one hour, start with a jog for say ten minutes then pick up slowly. that way you will not run out of steam after ten minutes, neither will you have that serious burning and choking sensation on your chest that will make you give up without completing your one hour.
speed is crucial. if you are walking then walk. Do not walk run walk run…u get the drift? Also if you want to jog for an hour, does it make sense to start off like you are the kenyan incarnation of Usain Bolt?? No? no.
No 4. is very simple.
if you aint sweating you aint doing it right.
well well well, food intake. just because youve worked out for 30min doesnt give you the green light to eat like its your last day on earth? like rita, caro and i used to blunder, make ten laps then have sausages, bacon, samosas, white bread and pour all the sugar in our white teas like saving the ozone layer depended on it. Actually the amount and type of food you take is the denominating factor of how well your body will be. But we’ll look at that in a few. what to eat and what not to eat.
Cecilia is a friend of mine who is a bit crazy….on second thoughts, she is veeeeeryyy crazy. No, actually she is one mean bitch, but i love her all the same.
Cecilia used to run along the beach every morning for one and a half hours. she’s very particular about her body, she’d cut almost 30kgs. because of that, her hips showed more, her tummy got flat and her boobies pointed to mt kilimanjaro.
After our troubles with the daily ten laps .and zero results (-ve maybe?) cecilia told us to join her in her morning runs along the beach.
The gal runs in a bikini by the way.
If you ask her why she’l ask you why she is working so hard if she cant show off her body. i didnt do anything as crazy as run in a bikini though. After a month i had lost four kgs (i had started to learn how to watch what i eat, though errantly)and i was a bit impressed with my results. cecilia tried alot to work with me even though i did not agree wholly with all of her ideas, like having a tomato only for lunch. *signh*. Despite her crazy anticts i realised i had become abit flexible. i could do stuff that i never would have dreamt of in the past two or so months. Mmmmmm, wat a dirty mind you have. I Also did the gym for one month.
However i dint get to go on with my program as our company got another project at the KPA and i had to go back to mombasa. Bye Rita, bye cecilia, bye caro. *sniff sniff*
I Know Mombasa is slow, but Watamu is even slower. shifting from watamu to mombasa needed some adjusting and before i knew it i had forgoten all about working out and all that err, craaappppp. welcome pizza!!!!!
welcome pizza is in other words saying welcome old age, welcome cellulite, welcome wrinkles and welcome diabetis plus a whole lot of other diseases they dint teach you in biology class.
and ofcourse welcome misery.
I felt heavy.
Its not a great thing when someone you havent seen for a while sees you and wonders why youve never told them your pregnant, or is it because its still a young pregnancy? mean i know, but wat to do? its a crazy world.
one of my friends was undergoing the same dilema as me and we decided we had to do something. but what really got me going and making up my mind was this chik who was a friend to my boyfriend who, when being introduced to, kept saying how i reminded her of her eldest sister. later when she got drunk she told me she likes me coz im like a bigger sister to her. Bitch was 25. Im only 22. wake up call.
Next morning i called maureen and we went shopping for a gym.
* * * * *
sorry, my friend Rahma said is calling me to go help her demolish all that food they’ve prepared and i cant ignore her anymore. its ramadhan, remember? And i stay in Mombasa, remember?
I’ll be back in an hour, and then we’ll see, what was it i did that helped me get from 83 to 68? did i lose weight healthily or did i use pills or something? did i just become thin or did i actually get a figure. did i lose weight in all the right places or did my boobies and ass go and leave behind a tummy?
plus do you know wat a grandmother’s wave is? do you have it?
So, how was the gyming experience?
maybe we could even do a few photo’s of before and after?
Finally, wat foods help one to cut weight?
