Absolutely nothing beats spending a night indoors with friends and creating memories that will last you a lifetime.
Few things hold meaning to us as the years go by, like genuine friendships and unconditional love from our little ones. Recently, I talked about how my friends and I no longer find clubbing to be fun and how we have discovered a new love for home made cocktails.
One of my friends in particular, let’s call her Leila, wouldn’t last an hour or two at most at the club before her forehead hits the table in deep sleep. And it’s usually not a light nap; Leila will go all out and hands down beat any Pitbull in a snoring competition, regardless of all the flashy lights and loud activities going on.
With this latest insatiable appetite we’ve developed for cocktails, it was quite expected then that sooner or later we were going to find our way to one of the country’s most popular gin brands – Gilbeys.
Gilbeys has become a must have drink for any party to be a blast. It’s affordability cannot be emphasized enough and the fact that it has little to zero hangover the following morning is an added bonus to us errrr……. not as young as we used to be peeps. (Even writing that alone brought a lump to my throat hehe. Inauma yawa).
I want to have as much fun as I can without my head reminding me of my skewed priorities In life the next day.
A little detail that never stays hidden for long with me is that I am not a huge fun of the bitter alcoholic taste, reasons why wine used to top my to go list of my happy drinks. It’s a small list, with only 3 names on it. Lol.
Reasons also on why I always chase my whiskey with something sweet, a behaviour that my friends find repulsive to no ends. The thing with wine however is you cannot drink lots of it….and this is where my love for cocktails grows.
Homemade cocktails most of the time don’t deliver in presentation. Nothing as fancy as those that are served in high end establishments or even clubs, complete with umbrellas at the top or garnished with olives and what have you. Not to say you cannot do any of these things if that’s your kind of thing.
If anything, the fancier you can make yours the better, afterall it’s all in the mind or so everyone says. Even the mind needs a bit of stimulation every once in a while. So if going extra with the ingredients of your drink and throwing in a little umbrella at the top will convince your brain that you are somewhere at the Maldives, please by all means go for it.
Nevertheless, I am a simple girl with an “acquired” taste for the simple things in life and the biggest irony with homemade cocktails is the simpler they look the better they taste. The thing is, with the ones you personally make you can control the ratios to fit your preference.
tried to beautify with a slice of orange but at the rate it was “refusing,” option was to throw it in the glass hehe
The simple gin and tonic combo. All you need is one serving of gilbeys, two servings of tonic, ice cubes. We used slices of oranges to enhance the taste (I told you I like sweet things) and delmonte mixed berries juice. Heh, Lord. Alcohol has never tasted better.
If you feel like that’s too much work for you, here is an even simpler combination that you could never go wrong with.
If you are looking for a way to spend a lazy night with friends, with the love of your life or even looking to give yourself a well deserved treat after a long laborious week, then maybe you should give gilbeys a try and see how hard their cocktails will slap. Thank me later – because thank me you shall.
