So, What is the difference between a cult and the occult?

occult/əˈkʌlt,ˈɒkʌlt/

The supernatural, black magic, witchcraft, occultism, devil worshipping. Involving or relating to mystical, supernatural, or magical powers, practices, or phenomena.

Suffice to say therefore, that most of these so called churches in Kenya are cults that practice occultism? With Most of these cult leaders masquerading as pastors being smart people who have mastered the art of brainwashing the masses while out to make a quick buck. I honestly do not understand what is currently going on in the country and I’m sure I am not the only one puzzled. We have gone from seeing a man nonchalantly record his wife killing herself, to a mother stabbing her two year old daughter to death, to multiple cases of people being thrown off the balcony, to high profile people getting away with murders.

And now the icing on the cake; hundreds of people dying on the instructions of a cult leader. For a doctrine that has reportedly been recruiting and radicalising its members since 2020, you can’t help but wonder how the area local administration, chief, village elders and even members of nyumba kumi missed it. How come a whole village never raised the alarm over something that was going so terribly wrong? Or was everyone fasting, including the authority. Three whole years of silence! Nothing! Mass graves and children missing, children absconding school, children being forced to fast, my God, whatever happened to legal age consent! I’m beyond livid and disappointed with everyone involved in this whole saga. The whole community should be ashamed, we all should be ashamed.

The shakahola Massacre unfolding right before our eyes will go down in history as one of the most bizarre happenings of our time. That we are alive to witness it is insane, I don’t think we understand yet the magnitude of it all. 100 years from now, people will look back and marvel at how one person was able to convince hundreds of people to starve themselves to death in the hope of meeting Jesus Christ. They will look back and think, “how stupid were those people? How gullible can a people be?” Jesus Christ, a meek humble human being, but whose name has been used to commit so much evil against humanity. Why does his name come with so much controversy, since the day he was conceived? Why are Africans so brainwashed and why is it that we now use Jesus’s name, a foreign concept to us, to commit crimes against humanity? Jesus is foreign to Africans, yet Africans are more obsessed with him than even the people that introduced him to us. From Bungoma to kakamega to the whole of western Kenya and now this whole Mackenzie saga in the coast. Allow me to ask Kwa upoole, what’s western Kenya’s deal with Jesus? What is this Obsession they have with a foreign religion? Above all, how many Jesus and gods can one community produce? I mean, it’s okay to believe in whoever you want to believe in but at what point does it cross over to madness? At what point do we pause and tell ourselves not to cross the line, or was the line crossed a long time ago and we are now in the land of insanity and madness and well beyond redemption? Allow me to ask, at the risk of sounding cliche, is the world coming to an end? No, seriously, what the hell is going on?

This obsession with religion is mortifying. Everyone needs to open their eyes and think for themselves. Stop being a sheep seriously it’s annoying. Why would you wait for someone to give you directions on how to live your life? There is also this opinion gaining ground that whatever was happening in shakahola was actually a symptom of something deeper going on. Something that goes all the way up in some government positions. Apparently, there could be more than meets they eye. Word doing the rounds is that it could have been an organ harvesting syndicate. Or something even worse. I wouldn’t know, I am a mere spectacular in all this. Let me, like the rest of the citizens, take a seat and watch, as we await on what we are almost sure to be ground shaking news break next. Maybe in a couple of days or weeks. Until then, keep safe and be cautious, lest YOU become the news.
