I wish you guys had told me earlier that manifestations do come to reality. After manifesting Lamu, guess who is there two weeks later, lying in bed after watching a beautiful sunrise, while writing this. (If you get the joke about manifesting then you do. If you don’t gerrit…. hehe)
I have always dreamt of visiting Lamu. The beautiful sunsets (you all know I have a thing for African sunsets, especially beach ones) the rich culture, which by the way is evident from the moment you step off that plane. As is the wave of heat that hits your body, ahem. Lamu is a Vibe.
It’s my first morning here; I have four more mornings to go. Already, the peace in my heart, the calm I am experiencing is like nothing I have ever experienced on any vacation I have been to before. A part of me wants to attribute this to getting older and appreciating every single moment and detail, but honestly this is it, Lamu is it.

I’ll talk abit about how to get to Lamu in this post. Three different ways to get to Lamu if you are in Nairobi. The first option, you can take a bus to Malindi, then take a second bus to Lamu. Total cost should be approximately ksh 2,500-3,000. And it would take you around 18 hours to get there.
Option 2 you could do an Sgr train from Nairobi to Mombasa, then take a bus to Lamu. That would help cut the time by around 4 hours. Rough estimate for this is ksh 2,500.
Last option is take a direct flight from Nairobi to Lamu. This is the option I took and I have to admit Jambo Jet comes in very handy here. First of all they almost always have these amazing offers that you have to check out for.
Like currently they are running some really good Lamu offers that you cannot afford to pass on if Lamu is a dream destination for you.
My flight from Nairobi to Lamu was roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes. It was a lovely experience with no incidents and the hostesses were super friendly. I had a cold beer as I stared at the clouds below while wondering if I started falling would they hold me, looking cozy and all. Couldn’t help noticing the irony in how turbulent the plane gets once it hits a big one.

If at all there is anything that screams “exotic!” once you hit Manda Airport in Lamu is the airport transfers. Imagine an airport transfer being a boat ride! A speed boat at that! With the breeze hitting your face and the water roaring past you. The cherry on top? I met old friends at the airport, going to the same place I was staying at. What are the odds? I mean seriously, what were the odds? Honestly, it doesn’t get better than that.
travelling with Jambo jet was a wholesome experience
I’ll talk about my stay here, the house I’m staying in and all the lovely places I’ll visit in my subsequent posts, but I have to pen off now. You know, I have some local delicacies like mbaazi za nazi, mahamris and vitumbuas to catch up to.
