Think of all those weekends you went out – those weekends when you dressed up, met people and stayed out until someone starts asking where the morning went.
Memories were created, but sometimes all one needs is a weekends where you get a comfortable seat, something good to eat, with your phone somewhere out of reach and five uninterrupted minutes of peace.
This cocktail is for the second kind.
The Passion Fruit & Ginger Fizz is bright, refreshing and just tart enough, with a little warmth from ginger. It is also wonderfully easy to make, which is important because nobody wants to spend their precious five minutes of peace measuring seventeen ingredients behind a home bar.
Passion Fruit & Ginger Fizz

What you need
- 50 ml gin
- 60 ml fresh passion fruit pulp
- 20 ml fresh lime juice
- 15 ml simple syrup
- 10 ml ginger syrup
- Soda water
- Ice
- Half a passion fruit and a lime wedge, for garnish
How to make it
Add the gin, passion fruit pulp, lime juice, simple syrup and ginger syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake well for about 10 to 15 seconds.
Strain into a glass filled with fresh ice, then top with a generous splash of soda water.
Give it a gentle stir and garnish with half a passion fruit and a lime wedge.
That’s it.
Now find your five minutes.
Don’t have ginger syrup?
Not to worry. Make a quick version by simmering equal parts water and sugar with a few slices of fresh ginger for about five minutes. Let it cool, strain and keep it refrigerated.
You can also muddle a small piece of fresh ginger with the passion fruit before shaking if you prefer a sharper ginger flavour.
Want it sweeter?
Add a little more simple syrup. Prefer your cocktails tart and refreshing? Reduce the syrup and let the passion fruit and lime do their thing.
And if gin isn’t your favourite, vodka works perfectly well too.
Make it a mocktail
You don’t need alcohol to have your five minutes. Leave out the gin and increase the passion fruit slightly. Shake the passion fruit, lime juice, ginger syrup and simple syrup with ice, pour into a glass and top with soda water.
Add plenty of ice, garnish with passion fruit and lime, and carry on with your peaceful Saturday.
Because sometimes unwinding doesn’t need a big plan but a good drink, a little quiet and nobody calling your name for five whole minutes.
