I can’t help myself; I am howling with laughter as I write this. Seriously. Not that I am complaining, on the contrary I am really grateful for the comic relief. God knows I needed it!
It’s been a week full of laughter and tears; the week of valentine’s. from angry friends who were stood up at five star hotels to tales in whatsapp groups of bitter girls saying how their boyfriends’ phones went off the whole of 13th and 14th only to be back on 15th with some of the most ridiculous excuses you’ll ever hear. *Insert a thousand crying emojis.* I wish I could share some of these hilarious tales but I wouldn’t dare, especially as the “victims” would know I am talking about them and that wouldn’t be cool at all, or would it?
Then Linda Ikeji happened. Her I can talk about, after all isn’t she the blogger who dishes out dirt about everyone indiscriminately? Well surprise, when some of this dirt is thrown her way, it so happens that she isn’t able to handle even half of it. When it comes to criticism, it is so easier to give than it is to receive….
Two days ago Linda posted photos of her new Hermes Birkin handbag on instagram and went ahead to brag that she had bought the bag from the UK at 14k dollars (oh Lawd, am I the only one who saw that?)
I thought Kenyans were savage but I swear in our whole history of trolling and trying to find the dirt in our celebrities (just to be clear, it is a very colorful history) not once did we send an email to a designer for them to confirm if a bag being displayed by someone is original or not. Because that is exactly what happened. Nigerians take the crown with this one! So, one of her followers pointed out that her bags weren’t original, and Linda came out guns blazing, saying she is too rich to buy fake stuff. All hell broke loose; the blogger threw a tirade of words, insisting the bags are original. In such a situation, what does one do? Simple – email the designer (I still cry just thinking about that move). I mean, why argue when you can get confirmation from the guys who make the bags? And viola, the reply comes. The designer distances themselves from the product and in their own words, it’s a counterfeit.
Now, this is the part I find funniest. The person who designs and makes the bags says they are fake. You on the other hand, since you know better, still insist that the product is an original one. “I am too rich to buy fake!” I mean, what is confidence! Ladies and gentlemen at least learn something from her on the art of confidence. At least let us give her that, going back and forth about the authenticity of a product with the guys who made it!
I am just here for the laughs. I don’t own even a fake Hermes myself (he he) so what do I know. But, as we all know; when you set up yourself in such a manner, just know you have it coming. When all you write about is gossip and dirt about other people then go ahead and post price tags stating how expensive your stuff is someone is bound to smoke you out. And what better way to do it than the Nigerian way…..
