5 Things You Should Stop Doing If You Want Your Phone to Last Long

Samsung - A new way to enjoy your home

We spend so much time on our phones that it is easy to forget they need a little care too. And no, I am not about to tell you to stop scrolling at midnight because well, that would be unrealistic.

But there are a few everyday habits that can shorten your phone’s battery life, affect its performance or simply put unnecessary wear on it.

Let’s have a look.

1. Charging Your Phone Under a Pillow

This one seems harmless, especially if you charge your phone beside you at night (I know most of you actually do it..) but phones generate heat while charging, and covering the device with a pillow, blanket or clothes can trap that heat.

Your phone does not need a duvet. Keep it somewhere with good airflow while it charges, particularly if you are using fast charging.

2. Constantly Letting the Battery Hit 0%

Your phone battery does not need to be completely drained before you charge it.

Modern smartphones use lithium ion batteries, and repeatedly running them all the way down can contribute to battery wear over time. You do not need to obsess over the exact percentage, but charging before the battery regularly reaches critically low levels is a better habit.

3. Using Any Charger You Can Find

That random charger at the bottom of your handbag might fit your phone, but that does not necessarily mean it is a good idea.

Poor quality or damaged charging cables and adapters can cause inconsistent charging and, in some cases, overheating.

Where possible, use the charger supplied by your phone manufacturer or a reputable, compatible alternative. Cheap is not always cheap when your phone is involved. Why take that risk?

4. Ignoring Your Storage

“Your storage is almost full” is one of those notifications most of us happily dismiss – until the phone starts behaving strangely.

Photos, videos, downloads and unused apps can quietly eat up storage.

Take a few minutes every so often to delete things you no longer need, move important photos elsewhere and uninstall apps you have not touched in months.

Trust me, your future self will appreciate it.

5. Keeping Apps You Never Use

We download an app for one particular reason, use it twice and then forget it exists.

Meanwhile, it may still take up storage and, depending on its settings, use background resources. Go through your apps every few months and ask yourself how necessary an app is, and when was the last time you actually used it.

If the answer is no, it may be time to let it go.

Your Phone Does Not Need Much

Taking care of your phone does not require a complicated routine. Keep it cool while charging, avoid unnecessary battery extremes, use reliable charging accessories and occasionally clear out the digital clutter.

And perhaps most importantly, stop treating the “storage almost full” notification like a personal challenge.
