CHUI launches 51 smart lockers across Nairobi to tackle last mile delivery challenges

As online shopping continues to grow in Kenya, getting parcels into customers’ hands efficiently remains one of the biggest hurdles for retailers, logistics firms and consumers alike. A new smart locker network launched in Nairobi hopes to make that process faster, safer and more convenient.

CHUI has unveiled an automated parcel locker network comprising 51 smart lockers strategically installed across the city, allowing individuals and businesses to send, receive and collect parcels through self service kiosks at a time that suits them.

The lockers have been installed in shopping malls, fuel stations, business complexes and residential estates, creating a network of parcel collection and drop-off points designed to reduce missed deliveries and improve last-mile logistics.

According to the company, the initiative seeks to address persistent challenges in parcel delivery, including missed deliveries, security concerns during exchanges, inconvenient collection procedures and the need for more flexible pickup options as Kenya’s e-commerce sector expands.

Among the first locations to host the lockers are Two Rivers Mall, Prestige Plaza, Gallant Mall, Gateway Mall, Southfield Mall and The Nord Mall in Ruiru. The network is also available at selected TotalEnergies service stations, including Gigiri, Mombasa Road, Survey, Likoni Road, Mountain View and Waiyaki Way, as well as selected Astrol Petroleum stations in Ridgeways, Rosslyn and Ngong Road.

The rollout is supported by partnerships with TotalEnergies and Astrol Petroleum, enabling customers to access parcel services from participating fuel stations across Nairobi.

Speaking during the launch, CHUI Chief Executive Officer Denis Kinoti said the solution was designed to give customers greater control over how they send and receive parcels.

“CHUI was developed to simplify parcel delivery and collection while giving customers greater control over when and where they access their parcels. As e-commerce continues to grow, there is a need for smarter logistics infrastructure that is secure, convenient, and accessible,” Kinoti said.

Unlike traditional parcel collection systems that require recipients to coordinate with couriers or visit designated collection centres during operating hours, CHUI’s lockers operate through secure access codes. Once a parcel is deposited in a locker, the recipient receives a unique code that can be used to retrieve it whenever convenient.

The same system also allows individuals and businesses to send parcels by placing them inside a designated locker, after which the recipient is notified with a secure collection code.

The service is expected to benefit a broad range of users, including online shoppers, marketplace buyers and sellers, small and medium-sized enterprises, e-commerce merchants and logistics providers looking for more efficient last mile delivery options.

The launch comes as Kenya continues to experience steady growth in digital commerce, increasing demand for reliable delivery infrastructure capable of keeping pace with changing consumer expectations. Smart parcel lockers have become increasingly common in several global markets, offering a secure alternative to home deliveries while reducing failed delivery attempts and easing pressure on courier networks.

CHUI says it plans to expand its smart locker footprint beyond Nairobi in the coming months as it seeks to improve access to modern parcel management services and support Kenya’s growing digital economy.
