The lady and gentleman sat across the table glaring at each other, each seething with rage. Each wanting to say something but none daring to. It was a battle of wits none was willing to lose and they both knew that the first person to break eye contact would have lost the first part of the war.
So they sat still. And glared at each other. The world around them momentarily forgotten. Strangers passed by in the posh restaurant but the two took no notice.
Eventually, Maxwell lowered his gaze, admitting defeat.
“It’s just momentary defeat,” he said through clenched teeth.
“Yeah right. If you were a dog you’d probably be lying low right now, tail between legs. That’s a technical knockout.” Naomi said triumphantly.
This was supposed to be the first date of an online hookup, but it was turning out to be terribly wrong. Naomi was a lawyer- one of the best in town. She was smart and outspoken and she did not take lightly to men who objectified women.
Maxwell was a businessman who had built his own empire single handedly. His was a classic grass to grace story. To him, women were to be seen. They were trophy wives. And the kitchen would forever be their territory.
This was the worst match up in the history of online dating.
It begun as an innocent question, Maxwell trying to keep the conversation going. Prior to that the date was going well. The food was fantastic, the music was great and the atmosphere was relaxing. Naomi felt what she hadn’t felt in a long time. She begun relaxing, something she hadn’t been able to do before while in the company of men. Damn the guy was even extremely funny! She laughed at his jokes and Maxwell told her she was very interesting. She blushed because nobody had ever told her that before and blushed harder when she realized that she was blushing.
She was grateful that this man was not piling alcohol on her table, trying to make her drunk so he could quickly get between her legs and forget about her the next day. Which was exactly what every man in that city did nowadays? Zero morals, that’s what.
“Do you watch this new program on TV that teaches women how to be good wives?” Maxwell asked innocently.
“Why should I?” Naomi asked, tensing a bit. Unfortunately Maxwell didn’t notice.
“Because, it teaches women how to be good wives. How to take care of their husbands and kids.” He said this with a smile.
“I don’t.” she said curtly.
Silenced.
“Okay this is the part where I ask why?”
“Because, whatever that woman teaches is all stuff we have seen and heard before. Oh, wear this and that to bed. Do this, do that, don’t do this and that, else your husband will leave you. Always sounds like threats to me.”
“You’re kidding right?”
“May lighting strike me down if I am.”
“I always thought every woman wants to be better at taking care of her man. Pleasing him so that he won’t go looking for a second wife.”
“That is the most selfish statement I have ever heard.”
“Excuse me?”
“Why is it always the woman’s fault when her husband cheats on her?”
“Wow, calm down Naomi!”
“Don’t you Naomi me! Go ahead, tell me to calm my tits! Isn’t that what all chauvinists say nowadays? Well let me ask you this, why isn’t there a program where men are taught to be good husbands? Where they are taught how to take care of their wives, who are tired chasing after the kids all day. Or where men are taught how to make their wives feel like real women, because apparently women are always being taught how to make their husbands feel like real men?”
“Well I…I don’t know,” the question had genuinely thrown him off balance.
“Of course you don’t. Now look here. The day there will be such a program is the day I will watch the one on women. But right now, give me a break.”
“Wow, you are a feminist.” He’d said with amazement in his voice.
“Call me whatever you like.”
“So it’s true what they say, feminists really have no real agenda?”
It was at that particular moment that she exploded.
“Feminists have no agenda? And chauvinists do eh? Is that what you are trying to tell me? Go suck dick my man!!”
You could hear a pin drop. Everyone stopped eating and stared at them. Maxwell was embarrassed, but the worst part was that Naomi didn’t seem to notice.
“Your time is up! Men should own up!” she was shouting now. “Always looking for reasons to justify your actions, that’s it! I cheated on my wife because she neglected me! Dude, are you a kid? Or I cheated on my wife because she smelt of baby milk.” She stopped and laughed sarcastically. “So who the hell do you want to breastfeed the baby? Your baby? So lame, that’s what you men of nowadays are. Own up.”
“That’s an insult.” He growled.
“You haven’t heard the last of it. If my man cheats, I cheat on him too. That’s the way it works. I will not sit in the house miserable, crying myself to sleep. Those days are over. My mother was the last of that generation.”
“I’m up to the challenge.” He’d said out of nowhere, surprising even himself.
“Those days are truly —— excuse me, what did you just say?”
“I said I’m going to marry you. I want to be there that day you cheat on me because I cheated on you.”
Naomi wanted to laugh, laugh in his face and tell him he was fucked in the head if he thought she could be married to him. But she didn’t. She could not. The man was dead serious.
And then they sat and glared at each other.
Until he lowered his eyes.
The waiter came with their bill, breaking the uncomfortable silence.
“I’ll pay’” Naomi offered, grateful for the intervention.
“Over my dead body,” Maxwell barked.
“I earn my money I can pay my bills!”
“Do not dare embarrass me Infront of all these people like that!”
“Typical! How is me paying a bill embarrassing you? Do you even listen to yourself speaking?” She sneered repulsively.
“Oh please let’s not start this again, I beg you. We can go on with it later.”
“Later? There is no later. Whatever this was, it’s over.”
“If you say so.” There was a mischievous winkle in his eyes and it sent shivers down her spine. She was confused. There was no mistaking that shiver, the electrifying feeling that spread through her body afterwards. What the hell was happening to her?
The waiter let out a cough. “Umm, I don’t want to sound intrusive, but there is so much sexual tension between the two of you. You should, err, you know.”
“No we don’t,” Naomi snapped and looked at Maxwell, who was trying to hide a smile. She sighed and looked at the waiter in the eye. “Or at least I don’t.”
She stood up and went to wait for him outside. It was raining. They drove quietly, each in their own thoughts. He dropped her at her place and she went in without saying a word. Not as much as a goodbye.
* * * *
Maxwell was in his house, changing into in his pajamas, when he heard the doorbell. He tied his towel around his waist and went to open the door and was surprised to come face to face with Naomi, in a tiny red dress. He was shocked. Not really for seeing her on his doorstep, but because of the tiny red dress she was in. that piece of dress went against everything else she stood for as a feminist. She who cared not about trying to please a man. The dress she wore at their date hid her curves, and Maxwell saw right there that she was really a beautiful woman. She had beautiful curves and he felt his member begin to misbehave.
He stared at her, standing at the rain like that with her hair wet. She looked like a small kid, scared and vulnerable and his heart went out to her. Without another word, he picked her up gently and took her straight to the living room, next to the fire that was burning brightly. There, he lay her gently on the soft rug and took his towel off. She gasped and closed her eyes! Such a member! How could someone be that huge!
Maxwell rubbed her softly with the towel, drying her up. He made sure she was completely dry. He brought her a warm and clean blanket and wrapped it around her. She tried to avoid looking at him because he was completely naked, which was really hard. He brought two glasses of wine and gave one to her and she realized she didn’t want to wake up ever again because this felt like a dream. She was in bliss land.
She stared at him; he looked like he was having an inner battle. Shyly, she stretched her hand and held his. Their eyes locked and Naomi thought she would explode. The throbbing in her innermost part intensified and she pleaded with him with her eyes. She tried to open her mouthy to say something but no words came out, and he lay a soft finger on her mouth, signaling her to be quiet.
He peeled the towel gingerly off her and she almost shouted for him to hurry. He touched her nipple and she let out a purr. He touched her everywhere and she opened up to him.
When he touched her part with his tongue, she went nuts. She dint know what was happening to her. Her whole body went numb and she felt such pleasure , pleasure so good it was almost painful. She let out a scream and her toes curled.
Maxwell stared at her, confused. She looked embarrassed.
“You dint tell me you are a virgin!” he whispered hoarsely.
He’d never been more surprised in his entire life.
