How to Make the Perfect KC Piña Colada (Kenya’s Tropical Twist on a Classic)

The Pina Colada has been one of my favorite drinks for a minute now. The name is beautiful and sounds like something exotic that you sip while on vacation at the Maldives or even closer home, at a bar in the middle of the ocean.

If you’ve ever dreamt of sipping something creamy, cold and sweet while a coastal breeze brushes your face, the Piña Colada will take you there. Forget about the name, the taste will make every day feel like a holiday.

The Pina Colada, in all it’s glory, hums with sunshine, laughter and lazy afternoons.

And now thankfully, you don’t need to hunt down imported rum or spend an amount of money you will regret the next day at a fancy bar to taste paradise. And regret you will, because Pina Colada is the type of cocktail once you start having you can never stop at one or two.

My sister recently visited me and I decided to play around with cocktail recipes. You all know by now how I love to do that. I asked her what her favorite drink is, and she told me that KC pineapple is the hill she is always ready to die on. So, at the comfort of my house, I set out to prepare magic for her.

I am actually glad she mentioned KC, Kenya’s very own drink. I love supporting Kenyan brands and it is so easy to fall in love with KC Pineapple as it has everything you need to bring that tropical fantasy to life.

Ingredients:

2 shots KC Pineapple

2 shots coconut cream (or coconut milk if you prefer it light)

1 shot pineapple juice (optional, but a must for me)

½ shot honey or simple syrup (optional, if you like it sweeter)

Ice cubes or crushed ice

Pineapple wedge or coconut flakes for garnish

How to Make It

Step 1: Pour your KC Pineapple, coconut cream and pineapple juice into a blender.

Step 2: Add a generous handful of ice. If you want it light and chilled, use a few cubes. But if like me you prefer a thick, smoothie-style Colada then by all means go all in with crushed ice.

Step 3: Blend until it’s smooth and creamy like a cloud that’s just landed in your glass (yum)

Step 4: Taste and tweak. Add some honey if you want more sweetness, or another splash of KC if you’re in the mood for extra warmth. You are the bartender here, you can do as you please 😊

Step 5: Pour into your glass, garnish with a pineapple slice or sprinkle of coconut flakes, and sip your way into bliss. I usually prefer using the martini glass when making the colada, but that’s just me 🫣

The reason why KC Works so well is because it already carries an irresistible balance between sweetness, some tanginess and an unmistakable tropicalness. If I were to describe it, I would say KC is the spirit of Kenyan sunshine in a bottle. And when you mix it with coconut cream it becomes silky, rich, and ohh so beautiful.

Serving Tips & Fun Twists

If you are out to have a good time, add a splash of KC Smooth or dark rum. And if you are after an even crazier night, add more shots.

For a lighter version: Swap coconut cream for coconut milk.

For a fruit bomb: Use frozen pineapple chunks instead of ice.

If you are the type of person who is crazy about aesthetics, rim your glass with shredded coconut or sugar.

For non-drinkers: Replace KC with pineapple juice and a few drops of vanilla extract and you sill still get creamy and delicious result.

The Piña Colada might have been born in Puerto Rico, but KC Pineapple gives it a Kenyan twist. It’s tropical, affordable and effortlessly cool.

So the next time the week feels too long, reach for your blender and that familiar bottle and viola, there goes your perfect KC Piña Colada. A taste of paradise, made proudly in Kenya but most importantly, with minor dents to your pockets.
